an hour-long email
So I got this below email from Vision Australia (ahem .. formally known as RVIB). And, normally these emails would be carbon-copied to all its huge list of recipients. But alas, as explained in my highly formalized email of mine below, it didn't happen, not only that, but the switchboard person let some of our home phone numbers on to the list of headers. Now, most people wouldn't be as curious as myself, as to go through the headers up the top, but the fact remains, I am!
On finding out what information was disclosed I was a little shocked. Then i laughed, constructed this email (in which I attempted to be very polite and posh to begin with, then purposely falling by the waisside.) OK at first I had fun, but I was half serious! I know an ex-friend of mine MS (now MH) has recently been appointed to the switchboard duties, and though I had her in mind as the one who may have "accidently" caused this error, i am *not ruling her out; Nor am I trying to seek some kind of secret revenge! afterall, we fell out quite a few years ago now, not once mind you, but twice! ha! Nah, this email could and should be addressed to anyone who's error it was. Heck, could be the old Natasha (queen Bee herself) for all I care!
To the switchboardest in charge of sending this message, Re: recall of study group,
As a client of Vision Australia (formally known as RVIB), I write this response to raise some confidentiality issues that have been breeched. I was under the impression the former organization regarded "client confidentiality" quite highly. Could I perhaps now assume that since the official name of the three merged smaller organizations have now been established, there is in fact no policy regarding confidentiality? May I, as a valued client of this new organization, request that confidentiality issues be addressed immediately again?
(statement for example purposes) Prior to this email and the new name for the merged organizations, my communications on the subject of "study groups" were,
A. Addressed to me only (ie. my full name followed by my email address. and as these emails undoubtedly went to a large group of people, one could assume that it was blind carbon-copied.)
B. The communication *never contained any of the recipients' individual names.
(End of statement for example purposes)
It should now be noted that the entire above example was not in practice in your recent correspondence.
ie. Not only was the email (in question) not blind-carbon-copied (hence all recipients' of this email were listed in the email headers to be viewed by everyone. Further to this, approx. 50% of the recipients' email addresses contained a string of numbers before them. On further investigation upon reading my own number, I concluded they were our private phone numbers! *shock horror!)
Bottom line is, whoever is on the switchboard, I have a right to my privacy. I don't want every tom Dick and Harry calling me up. Seriously, if this email was forwarded, for some reason to random people on the internet, anyone could abuse these phone numbers.
So please take my advice and be careful of how you handle your clients' email communications.
Thank you for reading and have a great day!
Yours faithfully,
a disgruntled client
P.S. I have left all headers in tact in your recent email below.
