meet the Fockers
Since I was introduced to audio described movies I have much preferred to keep copies of these over non-audio described movies. I find it so fascinating; there are a few movies I fell in love with just from having sighted ppl explain to me what's going on, but not many. I have always found I am rather impatient when it comes to movies and don't care about them too much unless, now, they are audio described.
This (Meet the Fockers) being one of my favourite movies of all time, I had obtained an audio copy of it not audio described. But I recently got the DVS version and decided to make a list of what I discovered through listening to it in this state, over listening to it thousands of times non-audio described, (and also having originally seen it with A in the movies, who did her best to describe to me what's going on.
list of new things I've discovered so far when for the first time, listening to the audio description of meet the Fockers compared to just the standard movie:
doesn't include obvious stuff like gestures, showing affection, etc (that one would guess by standard audio cues)
1. When the rental insurence guy asks "do you want to purchase rental insurence mister Focker", I didn't know they had already landed; I thought it was when they were sitting on the plane before they took off.
2. When at the Burns' I never knew wwhy Jack Burn says "sorry greg, the card only comes in one gender" but now I know it's because of him holding up a flash card of a female nurse".
3. later when Greg starts off "cool your dad is so into being a Grandparent" I didn't know where they were. thought they were still inside, not the driveway.
4. When Greg taps the RV I didn't realize the mean Jack wiped it clean afterwoods *laugh*
5. didn't know Jinks walked away from said toilet with Toilet paper stuck to his paw *laughs*
6. didn't realize they had captin and co-captain caps
7. didn't know they'd stopped at a service station, and while there I didn't know how the fake boob worked.
8. Didn't know the door to the cokpit used a remote for the door.
9. When they got to the "Fockers isle" (which I didn't know was on a sign, I didn't realize Mister focker was practicing his marcial arts (kicking the air)
10. Also didn't know he obviously would have mooned as he wiped his face with his shirt.
11. wow, didn't realize that Greg goes into his Mum's nude-statue-infested office and quickly tries to hides sex books ready for the Burns to sleep in
12. Lol at the lagoon I didn't realize that when Burnard announces "don't drink I want to make a toast" ros spits her drink back into her glass.
13. as the toast was happening, I didn't realize Burnard had his arm around Jack and then kissed him. Lol
14. I didn't realize that as Burnard was explaining he was squeezing lemon juice all afternoon he had his hand above Ros' breast.
15. I didn't realize that it was actually night time back in the RV while taking care of little Jack when Mrs Burns said "I think they are very nice people" I had presumed this happened still outside by the lagoon but not in the company of the Fockers.
16. didn't realize the cold Jack brushed past his wife's hug.
17. then after all the commotion involving jinks flushing Moses down the toilet, didn't realize the Burns were in Ros' office.
18. Of course I didn't really know everything that happened in the football sceen (including of course how Burnard hurt Jack)
19. and course the visuals in the sceen where Greg minds little Jack on his own.
20. At the Burns family conference when Pam storms out, I didn't realize Jack lifted up one of ros' sex books as he said "I'm not so sure ros is a yoga instructor either".
21. I had presumed the fockers were having shampain in the kitchen not their bedroom.
When Ros was giving Jack the massage, the audio describer referred to Jack's "but" as raising. I thought that was amusing!
22. Vbut I didn't realize Ros actually was crawling on Jack's back! Lol
I didn't realize Jack had such a high tech little hidden cubical in his RV.
23. Didn't know Deana and Ros were playing with puppets as Deana was rehearsing a scenario for Jack later.
24. I didn't realize after greg had left the RV, Jack grabbed a bit of Greg's hair from his co-captain's hat, which he puts in a test tube.
25. I didn't know the Focker party was at a restaurant. thought it was at the house.
26. and I didn't know, while Jack was leaving Horhay and greg to talk, he rubbed Horhay's head and pulled a hair out of his head.
27. then in a bathroom cubical Jack gets both hair test tubes out and puts them in ice.
28. I didn't realize Greg woke up the following morning with a sign attached to him with a circle and the text "greg" appearing outside the circle.
29. the description of the uplink of Horhay's father is uploaded to Jack in the RV.
30. The mariage takes place out by the lagoon. I didn't really know where it was.
31. After Ros' requested advice, Jack and deana go into the RV and put the captains hat on the door.
32. And Jack plays vidio footage back of the past where Ros sneaks surprises and hugs to little Jack, Burnie comes in and talks to little Jack, Greg as well,
Quite interesting, the things I (and people in my same situation) learn after listening to a DVS.
Also an interesting note to my sighted readers.
but even when people try their absolute best to describe movies to us, they just can't describe everything even if they want too. It's impossible. Even these dVS movies can't describe everything but it's a real eye opener - pardon the pun for us :)
