Big Brother Australia has been officially axed, with Channel 10 holding a media embargo on the announcement until midnight tonight.

The tragic news comes despite the best efforts of this year’s production staff who took risks to revive the BB format. It is also a huge shock for Big Brother Australia fans and the hundreds of employees involved with in show’s creation.

Our sources inside the Big Brother compound tell us the announcement was unexpected for the BB producers, who did what they felt was in the best interests of the show and believed this year would be a season benchmark.

We have also been informed the Big Brother “concept” will return to Channel 10, however this won’t be seen until at least 2010. No word on whether this project is part of the Endemol Big Brother franchise.

this news has actually shattered me. -- I was actually laying a lot of hope into trying out again for next year, and maybe with the fact that they've had a blindy on the U.K show this year, I thought, in BigBrother's usual fashon, we will follow the U.K, and maybe, I could be in with a chance, OK as unrealistic as it may be; one dreams!
I'm so angry with all those ministers and politicians who have wanted it axed for a while. They have no sense of humour; they take life way too seriously!
Yes, I know all good things have to come to an end. I mean I guess eight years was a pretty good run, and I never would have thought it'd last this long!
and don't even talk to me about the stupid Simpsons or seinfeld now getting even more air time!
Absolutely ridiculous australia! You've no idea! And I guess Australian Idol can keep going on because, that gives people opportunities! Well, actually BigBrother does too! Look at all the people who have got radio jobs, (yeh not too glamourous I know, but what about all those modeling contracts, and, Especially Blaire from BigBrother 1, being able to get onto Neighbours which was like his dream come true!
Sure, it's all about ratings, and all about money, but as someone from the community rightly said, the daily shows are just getting worse and worse. As they stated, in bigBrother these days, one girl just has to look at one boy, and it's the highlight of one daily show! -- oooh relationship!
OK, maybe it was more about them no longer being able to proffit that well, but as I just said to AA when he suggested that to me, seriously, what did they expect when they've just forked out millions for Pamela Anderson to appear? She was lovely and all, but she wasn't going to do that for free!
For goodness sakes australia! what an idiotic decision!
Yes, I'm passionate about this; bite me! I am annoyed that I may have missed out on a chance, (however small or big the chance actually was.)
