Writer's Block: Mystery meat
[Error: unknown template qotd]
I'm not very fussy when it comes to food; just ask my family and/or anyone else who associates closely with me; I love love love my food; absolutely love trying new foods as well; it's almost an obsession; well not quite but almost; eating is my life, (though I'm not obese by any means).
But, there's two foods I can't stand, or don't think I could stand and the reason I say this will be clear in a short while. However, when I say I "can't stand" something, it doesn't mean I would absolutely refuse to eat it under any circumstances;
-- if it was on my plate at a friends place for example, I would just 'suck it up" (pardon the pun) and yes I would be able to eat it without feeling sick; but my parents know that it's one thing they kindly substitute when I'm there (and when I use to live there).
Fish! any kind! (with the exception of prawns which i do enjoy). It's a bit weird, because I'm absolutely sure i use to eat canned tuna when I was little, but somewhere along the way, I will refuse to eat fish at family meals and all good quality restaurants. -- "fish is much better off left in the sea" is what I say. -- Yes, Dad has tried many-a-time over the years telling me how good it is; "it does this and that" and, I believe him; i know how good it is, so I do wish I could enjoy it, but I just can't. -- It's almost become Psychological now where if we are having a chicken casserole and I'm told there's fish in it, I’ll immediately be put off it, even though I had actually been enjoying it up to that point, Lol! Crazy I know!
Why is is gross? I dunno; it just tastes "fishy"! not good.
One other food item I tried when I was five (mind you) but have never tried since is dates; they repulsed me back then, so much so, that I swore, even at that young age, I'd never have them again. -- Mum use to make this delicious apricot slice, and up until a few years ago, I thoroughly enjoyed it, until she told me there were dates in it; -- ruin my fun -- yes, Psychological-much too, I know.
What makes dates gross? I can remember they were sticky and, i dunno, the taste was just like nothing else!
In other news, today is the day I roast my first chicken all by myself! -- I felt so confident after we all cooked it at Mon's, that I'd been dying to give it a go myself; so the girls are coming around, as well as Kaz's son. -- this will be good.
I will be going shopping soon to buy a lemon (to stick up it's bum throughout the cooking process so it doesn't dry out; it also adds extra yummy flavour along with the cation spice which we sprinkled all over the breast at Mon's, so will do it here as well; mmmm -- so so nice! -- So the girls will be here early to be on call in case I need any assistance on this my first attempt.
I went to my butcher yesterday and bought a medium chook. Then Joy and I walked up to Pumpkins for some French toast (for me anyway, not her! ;) -- then Kaz and troy came over and we went and had a lovely cheese platter at Enricks before coming back here for a cuppa.
This week is semi-occupied. having dinner and staying over at Mon's tonight, Got to go to Kensington Tues and Wed, and vet thurs.
Amy G from the u.K (who I was going to stay with in Wales last year) is coming here from the 7th til the 17th; she's staying with james B from when she arrives Thursday til the 7th. I actually didn't realize she'd be here so soon which is why I didn't document it in my LJ before now.
Well, time for me to read the friends page before I get stuck into my day.
