my good deed for the day! :)

Well, we just saved a baby duckling.
OK before (around maybe 5) I'm sitting here at the puter, and kept hearing this really loud cheeping. I thought it's way too loud to be birds. so I went outside, and in my front garden, I heard a bit of flapping and cheeping. I eventually realized they must be ducks and their ducklings. I just followed them a little as I was curious but they must have been scared. anyway I heard the cheeps get further and further away so I just went inside. anyway cooked tea, heard this one loud cheeping again outside my window so went out, but couldn't catch anything. so I just had tea and watched Neighbours. then afterwoods, was at my puter again and could hear it. I went outside again and was out there in the cold for a while trying to find it. I was actually getting pretty close this time but still couldn't catch it. I then wondered if it got lost from its mother and went into call Mum. i explained it to her and she said that she saw all these ducks and duclings when she was here earlier. anyway to cut a long story short, she came down and eventually found the duckling. it was sooo tiny! hadn't seen anything so tiny! I got a towell (as it was freezing). A theory Mum had was that maybe those ducks had the ducklings here. but it did have fur though. anyway I'd told her that I was a bit worried in case I was a tad responsible for this duckling getting separated from the rest by my following them down the driveway. anyway I so wanted to keep it but Mum was saying she could probably monitor it better which she's probably right since it's so small! so she's going to call the R.S.P.C.A tomorrow I think. though she was joking that it could live with the chooks!
but it was sooo cute! It was in the towel on my lap but suddently climbed up on my shoulder. then when mum held it, it snuggled in her jacket like cuddling the mother! poor thing would not have survived tonight if I left it out there. so I'm just so happy that we rescued him/her in case any of that was my doing!
Til next time, RdFreak

Ducklings are just gorgeous, and their baby down-feathers really do feel like fur - all soft and fluffy!

There used to be mother ducks and ducklings in the ponds next to where I went to uni... I used to love sitting outside and watching them swim about together. The little ones are so adventurous - as long as Mum's nearby! =)

yeh, well there are a few ponds and a lake around here - up the street, so they probably came from there. I hope this one is alright tonight! it was sooo cute!

That was a wonderful thing for you to do. I hope it survives. I don't blame you for coming out the first time, but dont' feel guilty. Maybe the duckling was too weak to go with its mom. Hugs!

Baby duckings are very gorgeous. I just want to say that you did a great job in saving that little duck. If you hadn't of saved it, he or she may not be alive today. Wishing you all the luck with the little duck and hope he or she gets strong enough again. *smiles*

I think we will call you mum now (or at least the duckling might). That was so sweet of you helping the little duckling out, and obviously the duckling appreciated you too. Jasmine (my bird) would be proud of you! :)
