here I am again!

I'm inside starbucks near the marina. I just ate some lunch; no wonder people say they love this place; yummy steak and cheese belene (excuse spelling).
I was outside for a long while trying to surf, but the wireless wasn't strong enough, so a kind soul helped me in here!
They are nice people; I should not get frustrated cos they don't do English!
anyway, only annoying thing is eudora, which I downloaded yesterday, won't get my mail; it's timing out, *grrrrr* will have to go to the web page later and do it that much-slower way.
I am using an external keyboard; idea is to try and save the battery a bit by having the laptop shut; will prob give me double the time. wish there was a way we can turn the screen off!
Yesterday I didn't go anywhere. I was a tad sick with the runs, excuse the detail) all day. as Dad had it as well, we think we ate some dodgy chicken Monday night when we went to one of the JBR restaurants.
Tomorrow I leave for Dublin via Frankfurt where I will be catching up with [livejournal.com profile] tibinia for a few hours.
Then on friday will be seeing [livejournal.com profile] louise_1985 then will be on my way to <lj user="tlx2".'s place who's LJ I haven't yet subscribed too yet again! now, off to check me mail manually. it's so much better when I'm actually in starbucks as oppose to outside where I couldn't do anything on here! til next time, RdFreak

Hey love, sounds like the wireless is keeping you occupied, and that you are sampling some of Dubai's quizine. Yum! Best of luck with your trip tomorrow, and look forward to an update from England!

Love, Jordie

I also wish there was a way to have the screen on my lap top shut off while it's open. However, I found a way around that, sort of, but it might be risky if something goes wrong and you need sighted assistance.

This is in Vista. What I do is go into the power settings under control panel and set the brightness for my screen very low. That way it both saves battery life and also I don't have to worry about anyone reading what is on my screen. I have the choice to have the brightness set differently for when it's plugged in and when it's not, so then I set it really low when I'm on battery in public, and high for when it's plugged in just in case I need sighted help. I hope that helps. Enjoy your holiday.

Actually an external keyboard won't save your battery as the screen probably burns the same amount of power as plugging in and running the USB keyboard. Better way to save power is to turn off any devices you aren't useing bluetooth, camera etc, only turn on wifi when you are surfing, set display timeout to 1 minute and install speedswitch xp or similar and set cpu speed to stay low. The slower the chip the longer battery life. Pitty the aspire has one of the weaker batteries, 2-3 hours is usually about it. I get 4-5 hours out of my msi wind but it's heavier than your aspire, bigger keyboard too. not sure if your aspire has the mechanical hard drive or the solid state one, solid state one uses less power. get back to me privately on how to fix Jaws 10 if you wish. Take care.

hey Kez, you can check this out for me when you come down, ie, the settings. that sucks, as I thought that the screen went off it the laptop was closed.
