different?
Apr. 3rd, 2006 02:04 pmwell I've had a pretty interesting day so far with a couple of different wists to it.
Mainly I've been scanning The Best American short Stories 2005 which is going well for the most part. A few times it (K1000) says the confidence level for recognition on a certain page is low in which case I try the same page again and it's OK. after a while of trying doing one page at a time, I felt confident enough to try recognizing two pages at once, so I have to press the book flat on the scanner cos both pages definitely fit. It's a paperback but it's extremely thick and the strong binding means that obviously I have to apply pressure on the binding which ensures both pages are all flat on scanner! Maybe sometimes I move in which case the scanning gets a little lost, who knows?!
Well I got a call on my mobile from "collections", one of the jobs i applied for. And cos I had applied for quite a number of customer service jobs I could not remember which one it was. so that was kinda annoying and funny (if ya wanna look at it like that). First time I ever got a kinda phone interview. I think I handled it OK actually but I wasn't successful this time only cos of lack of experience. but he didn't say that in so many words; he just said that they will contact me when a job comes around suited to my background. Having it being my first phone interview I didn't really get all that he'd said til he was gone. but he did tell me to have a good day and I wished him the same likewise! One of the questions he asked me though was how I'd handle a really awful caller? (he didn't put it like that though; can't remember how he worded it) and well I think I kinda said something that would have sounded really wrong but then I covered up by saying "if it were a telemarketting call I would say allow me to call you back another time" as oppose to what I just stopped myself from saying "well bugger off" basically! Lol not that I was going to say that, but something along the lines of "well thanks for your time and see ya later". hmm! anyway, just lack of experience. and I am all on edge, cos I'm not use to acting professional. I mean the closest I had to a job was when I was gunna be filling in for rVIB reception for a few days over easter! I remember saying to dad "I'm not use to being professional. I'm scared I might ruin it" which I am actually. I'm so scared of that! ah well! it's all experience as dad said when I called to tell him afterwoods at work.
Then i checked email and I got another knockback but I think it was that one I stuffed the cover letter up. actually no it was Foxtel and it sounded pretty cool but again they wanted experience, duh! How am I meant to get experience in the first place? *grr Then I was pleased to get an acknowledgement of receat of one. This was cool as I didn't think the email address worked as I got an undeliverable back when I'd sent it through Seek. but she got it. and that was the one I worked on the cover letter for ages! so she said that it would be reviewed when the applications close. I'd sooo love to get this job. it sounded ideal! though they needed a drivers licence; why? I have no idea as they didn't say. but I have the other qualifications.
This morning I emailed my assignment off and I will work on the last two stories tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm spreading it out and doing a story a day.
I'll watch Judge Judy at 3. and keep going with the scanning.
