Celine Dion's amazing concert! :)
Apr. 3rd, 2008 09:40 amman I don't think I'm going to be able to give this wonderful concert much justice by trying my best to journal about it, but I will try! it was nothing short of amazing, and to say I didn't get any of my old feelings back (of years ago) would be lying. I mean, I went from being totally obsessed in the 90's, to kinda slipping away and not really following her much at all, though I still mannaged to get myself her latest english albumns; I certainly wasn't as enthused about having to have them first or anything! ..
Poor Dad had a cold, so I felt bad to ask him for lifts in the horrible weather that was Victoria all over yesterday, but, he was fine. Had trouble with my phones though cos I was playing with my nokia 6120 so much when power was off, that, I hardly had any battery left, so, while attempting to swap my sim card to my older phone, it flicked out, and I lost it. We were panicking as it was the only means I had to find out where we'd to meet
jordina and Q, etc. Anyway, I got the usual (understandable, though not at the time) lecture about always having my phone charged up. Dad found the sim card on the floor and I put it in my other phone, which didn't have much battery either. But it all turned out for the best. called J when we got there, and was able to successfully meet up with her and q.
Dad left then, and we were helped to our seats by a couple of lovely young ladies. They decided to put us nearer to the stage which was great! They were to look out for us during the concert, not that we needed anything at all.
Anthony collier sung for the first half hour. i'd heard of him, but not much of his music. He's Melbourne born and bred and he'd explained that ten years ago, his fifteen-year old self had wanted to go and See celine at Crown, and here he was, 25, and supporting her!
J and i were explained the layout of the stage and seats as best we could be. The seats are in a circle around the stage - well, we concluded they couldn't be right around as the backstage and changing rooms would need to be hidden from view. It was because of this, that we could finally understand why anthony made the following hilarious statement. (we were put about seven rows from the back corner of the stage.)
at one point, Anthony said, probably after turning to us, "I apologize, you've been getting my arse all night .. woops .. we'll just move on." so in other words, it was the people's facing the front stage, who's turn it was to have his arse for the last part of his entertainment.
He's a great artist; J and I said he sounded a bit like John Farhnam. maybe that was his influence, - don't blame him; I looove John Farhnam! :)
anyway he did a wonderful job and assured us we'd have a great night with Celine.
There was a half hour interval between 8.30 and 9, then, the lights went out and the audience started to cheer and aplaude.
She sung a couple of songs, then addressed us in her usual wonderful celinely fashon.
The first few songs were "THE POWER OF LOVE", "TO LOVE YOU MORE" and of course, her title track of her latest album and tour "TAKING CHANCES".
It wasn't long before I started to feel quite sad that I hadn't attempted to arrange with her presenter to try and meet up with her again. Memories flooded back of my meeting with her and how much I'd changed!
J and I certainly could tell that her range had improved with her age. She could sing quite low, as well as still being able to, quite beautifully hit very high notes indeed.
She was talking a little about her little son, and how he'd had all sorts of funny expectations about coming to australia, and how much he'd been looking forward to it.
J and I even got brave and did a bit of a reinactment of how we were at her concert in 1996. After a lot of my emotion had flooded back, I waited for silence and shouted "yo Celine", and "I love you", while J went with her "Rachel Loves you". we'd crack up, wondering, as we did back in 96, if she'd heard, and also cracking up over our sudden urge to act like our younger selves in public again.
Man she was amazing, and during her standing ovation (at the tail end of the night), I found myself too overwhelmed and the tears came. As i'd explained to J later, they came not only from her, but I'd been thinking how much luck (or lack there of) I'd had in my love department since 96. That song got me thinking.
During the night, She replied "I love you" to a few audience members who were also shouting the words, but after one of her items, while everyone was clapping, she said it quickly and quietly again. At the time, I thought nothing of it, but later wondered if it could have been possibly for me. maybe she'd seen me? possibly not, but we can never tell, and it's fun to think about. What if she did spot me in the crowd off to the side, and did remember me? One can never tell.
all I kept thinking was, 'what a lovely person she sounds' .. not that she wasn't before, but now that she's had all those extra years in the English-speaking spotlight, and having her son, she just seems that bit more .. hard to explain .. (I'd originally said loving, but that's not the right word .. well .. she's certainly very influenced by america. it's understandable though since she'd spent so long in Vegus, and practically lives in the country now. There's nothing wrong with it of course, she just has a slightly different manner to her French Canadian beginnings.
I was a tad confused though when the concert ended and J and i were talking to our usher, who was very lovely. She had told us that it was celine's wishes not to have cameras, even on mobile phones. Also, apparently, she was one of the few singers that would leave right after the show, leading me to wonder what happened to all those people that are told on radio stations, they'd be meeting her backstage.
J was going to attempt again to see if I can go back and meet her, and I know she'd meant it; of course, if it wasn't for Celine's quick exit.
J and I waited in reception for a while for a cab, and we made it home, about 12.30; well I did anyway!
what a brilliant night! wwhat an emotional night! and maybe here begins a slight craze again. I know now, that I will do my best to meet her again. -- what an amazing woman!
I had called dad to see if he got home alright, and all was fine! Him and Mum leave for their four-day stopover in dubai tomorrow, so I hope dad can get rid of his cold by then. He'll be busy over there, in preparations for his new job in a couple of months.
til next time, RdFreak
P.S. that took me almost an hour to write, Lol
