well now I have a damn sore throat. must have got it of Danielle and Neil, who were both sick with a cold. Am hoping I won't get that as I started on the cold and flu tablets.
Tuesday morning I called up Science museum, only to be told that they don't offer guides to vision impaired. so I accepted and hung up. Then Neil called back and spoke to same guy. he basically gave him a piece of his mind; he had too. I was told that I'd need to write a letter to them. Neil rightly stated sarcasically, yeh, tourists really have enough time to do that! -- anyway, he was eventuqallyb put through to this girl called Rachel who said she'd be only too pleased to take me around. so I spoke to her, exchanged details, and she even said she'd meet me at the station.
So yesterday (Wednesday) I set off myself. I'm not new to travelling on the train system and the London underground myself but it was refreshing to be able to do it again after not having been here for about a year and a half. as usual, the assisstence was great, and everyone extremely chatty.
Met up with Rachel, and she turns out to be the disability co-ordinator believe it or not. She was lovely; only a few months older than me. She was also a neighbours fan, and we exchanged details, so I think we'll end up being good friends as well.
Anyway, she was great. She gave me a braille book, describing all the galleries. We looked at some aircraft through history, old engines, a Psychology/personality section and an interactive gallery which mostly attracted school kids, but it was great. The most interesting thing was this silent box, with a thin vibrating glass tube hanging out. There were wrapped straws which we were to use, and we'd put the straw on the glass tube and bit down on the straw. We'd actually then be hearing wrap music. What happened was, the vibrating tube came from the box which had music playing, only we couldn't hear it unless we tuned into the vibrations through our teeth which obviously eventually connect to our ears through the jaw! I found that fascinating.
After the museum, I went back to Victoria station; to Cafe Rouge (which I'd been to only in 2006) and waited for the others to arrive for our meals. Their friend Andre D came with them, who actually had stayed the night previously.
Oh, Martin R came over here Monday. it was so cool to catch up! He also knew Neil from school so it was good all round
And, I'm now typing on my puter as wireless now works after I switched it back on. didn't realize one could turn it off! woops!
had to install window eyes here, as jaws doesn't seem to read properly in eudora and msn. I set wineyes to the jaws layout as I don't have a clue what the other commands are, Lol! am using jaws now though to update this.
I'm sick, and I wanna go home, *whine*
til next time, RdFreak
