3.10 PM
it hasn't been a very good day today weather-wise. the sun is starting to show now, but it was drizzling, and trying to rain harder while we were out before.
We went to see the Lanhydrock mansion. it was by far the biggest house I've walked in with 51 rooms!
As I always do with Historic houses and objects, I was imagining the goings on in the house at the time.
Christine and Jack did a really good job of describing everything to me; some stuff we could touch, other things we couldn't.
The kitchen had about four rooms to it; a room for cooking, for washing, for storing, etc.
The extensive dining room had its table laid with twenty sets of knives, forks and various wine glasses to each set.
On one of the many pamphlets that was in the kitchen, Christine read out all the rules that all servants had to follow; gosh it was strict! And every day had its tight schedule.
As I was walking through the kitchen, i was imagining the hustle and bustle of all the servants, and the smell of all the food being prepared around the clock.
There was a big bread stove which I hadn't seen before.
Some of the rooms are still not able to be viewed with most roped off at the doorway while others completely closed up.
The bedrooms, servants quarters and the nursery were up stairs! actually, it was a three story house!
We were able to walk in one of the bedrooms and I felt the bed; it was quite hard, I thought!
There were two grand pianos; one at the entrance to the big ballroom upstairs, and one actually inside the room.
I did buy a few fridge magnets with the house on its surface for family, and also bought a book all about the house.
I bought Dad a vegan book and also Mum, a china jug in the shape of a chicken; she collects jugs, so thought it was ideal.
Then we came home and had lunch. I've lost my taste which I'm not too happy about; I looove my food way too much! Hopefully I'll get it back soon.
Yesterday afo we did a big shop and we got some chocolate and lollies (though they're called sweets here), but am holding off on them til I got me damn taste back!
I wrote to a couple of LJ communities just to see if there are any Cornish people around who may want to catch up; long shot, but just wanted to see what happened, especially seeing if there's anyone in the [livejournal.com profile] blindpeople community from here!
Am not going to wales now because though I'd be able to stay with RNC with Amy on the weekend, I couldn't stay there Sunday night, and the trains are too difficult on Sundays. I could stay in the lodge, but it'll be too expensive; plus, this cold needs to get better; so next time, I assured her.
think that's about all the news for now.
Til next time, RdFreak
