I'm at GDV
Nov. 10th, 2009 08:28 pmSo I'm writing from Arnold Cook house at GDV. I have Joy sitting beside me; actually she's laying very nicely now. She's an extremely cute little yello lab; much smaller than Heartly@ Her coat is so so so so soft!
We got given our dogs yesterday for a few hours, but then they went back to kennels; just to give us a break this morning. But we got re-issued them about 8.30 this morning. We went out for walks in groups of two as someone else is using the bus for the week. We only went for one walk as it was so hot today. it's meant to be a tad cooler tomorrow, so we will go on a few more then.
I am amazed at how well Joy has responded to me even after today! course she is still very much attached to our instructor Jane, but she is just listening to me so well, and worked so well for me today.
I feel sad about Heartly when I think about her; I know she's at Mum's, but I can't help feeling guilty, and just sad in general that never again will she be in my life how she always was. It hurts, how I love her so! But I also know my love for Joy will only grow more and more as well! I'm already attached to her!
There's currently five other people in our class; three first-timers, and three non-first timers, (including myself of course :) I have found myself opffering my advice as an experienced guide dog handler. There's meant to be another guy joining us next week; also non-guide dog clients will be here throughout with the exception of this week. I do get along with everyone extremely well, except for the one whom I just find it hard to communicate with as he is deaf/blind and likes to take over; maybe it's not intentional, but I dunno!
So anyway the remainder of the day was spent figuring out the toiletting harnesses, obedience, feeding, etc etc. I am so glad I have the toilet harness now; seems like it will be so much easier in that I will no longer have to pick up after her in my yard.
K well guess I may go and quickly check out my Facebook and twitter accounts.
