deep vein Thrombosis

I may have mentioned this previous, but before I went to the US, Mum had me in such a panic with talks of Deep vein Thrombosis and how long flights can be a cause, (I'd heard this before) but I thought i'd be fine, but I'd only spent four hours on the plane at the most before. Once I passed this, I had a wait in Aucland - only an hour) then another twelve hour flight. then I started to panic a bit after about the sixth hour! I had never had to experience such long travel; just sitting down doing nothing, thinking about every little feeling that is a result of my legs being in one place for so long! There is only so many times one can walk to the toilet without ppl kinda getting suspicious! Lol!
Anyway needless to say, some how I mannaged to survive that trip!
And my following demestic flights went OK except because I had started to get the flu, the long flight from Vegas to florida was awful! As I was aching all over, i was so worried that I was gettting me DVT, and so all I could find myself doing was moving my feet around as much as I could in the small space i had in economy!
Flying back from SFO to Aucland was so much better than flying up. I some how mannaged to dose off for a few small bouts at a time, (but then unfortunately be only interupted by these kids behind me with a kick to the back of my seat)! *grr My nose didn't even dry out as it did going up! My nose dried and was so sore; I didn't think the nose relied on lubrication til the vents and all dried everything.
Anyway needless to say, I told mum that her talks of DVT had me in a panick mode all the time Lol! She laughed and told me it was just comments, probably no need to worry.
But I now find that, since I'm now deciding to go to the UK, my my itinerary unavoidably = 21 hour flight time! so yes, I am a little worried Lol
But, I just googled this and it kinda confirmed more what Mum said, in that I probably don't have to panic too much. Parents have been to UK. also family friends always travel between lands! as long as I move my feet all the time, i probably should stop freaking.
If anyone out there would like to give me tips about how they handle long flights, they'd be much appreciated?!
As usual, annonymous comments are welcome, but just sign your little name thinggy down the bottom?! thanks!
OK so now I really am getting a cold. and I have been sneezing like a freak, and i got a saw throat still and all that yummy stuff! :( I decided to take me tablets though. I was prescribed them in case i got sick in the US but i didn't take them. took one I believe!

Date: 2005-09-10 01:15 am (UTC)ive traveled to the USA.... 7?8? times? thats a total of 14?16? long flights. [dont forget the 11 hours to japan and the 9 hours to sydney....]
to sleep, I put the tray table thingy down, put my pillow on it... and sleep that way.
sounds unusual, but its quite comfortable.
when my neck starts to hurt, I just sleep up against the wall, usually with my legs up on the seat.
to keep your legs from being angry at you.... first off, dont worry about them ;) just move them around occasionally..... put them on your seat.... whatever works, really.
to relieve boredom: audio books. I write, so maybe a laptop would be a good investment for you? listen to music..... i plan on buying an ipod. and most of all ..... SLEEP. i love sleeping. but, as we all know, im really cat.
