I've had it up to here with this stupid audio on the computer! I got another sound card; what more does it want to make me happy?
It seems that my headset mic is having issues too, but I can't be sure cos, though I can actually use this sound card, there is no boost option for the microphone. it says "advanced controls unavailable". I can't even do a simple recording of gameplay any more and talk as I'm doing it. oh no, everyone else can do that, but me! so course net broadcasting is out of the question til I can find a damn solution!
It got me sooo worked up last night that it's scarey! If something doesn't go right for me, well, I lose it! I just don't know. I'm no damn computer expert like some of my friends. I don't have a clue. I know about the every day stuff but I can't troubleshoot problems like this. I just want to be able to record things like the good old days, but with this fast computer!
ah well, I guess one of these days? maybe? if I'm lucky! looks like I may need a new microphone. that one was expensive too damnit! and not to mention stereo ones for the ivier. Hello to me being techno behind again! yeah!
til next time, RdFreak

I can make you a little boosting amplifier for the microphone so it can go into the back of the computer. Would be about $13 or $15 in parts. Can rig it up so it taps power from the computer, too, so you wouldn't need to use a plug pack.

That would indeed solve the problem; you'd need to provide phantom power to the condenser microphone and boost it to say line level? Re the advanced controls I need to look into this; I have a CMI8738 here as well and I think the advanced controls are gray also. I'll boot Linux and see what controls appear. If the microphones work on the iriver they're not broken; I doubt the fault is with the microphones. there are updated drivers for the intel card; Rachel get your dad to get me the motherboard model so I can hunt the drivers down for you; or another person on your friends list can help dig them up for you. Updated intel drivers can fix the problem.

I presume you're talking about the motherboard card now - that dodgy realtech. I'm now using the other soundcard. .. and sorry bout the confusion; haven't tried that headset mic on the iriver, but it's a good idea to test it out, Lol

Ohh, I'm totally the same way. I let the littlest things get me so worked up, all the time, and they often ruin my day. It's silly, isn't it? Anyway, good luck with all this! I'm too far away and computer-illiterate to help out, but I sure hope someone can.

hey, thanks. yeh fortunately I've got a few computer-sappy friends!
yeh I know. it can be a real worry sometimes - the way we can almost feel like exploding! *grrr glad I'm not the only one to admit that Lol :)
