I've just been saying to [livejournal.com profile] golden_sands that it really really peaves me right off when people write in their LJ "vote for me; vote for me; vote for me".
OK for one thing, I rarely talk to my LJ audience, because it's my journal. secondly, I'm the sort of person who will never do it cos it's like saying "I'm desperate" or "I'm popular" or "I'm not confident with my writing so I need my friends support.
If I get eliminated this round, I can garantee it's cos I haven't had my "lj friends" vote for me. I'd much rather strangers vote for me cos they like my style of writing or they just like my subject matter. don't get me wrong, if my LJ friends want to vote for me, be my guest, but at no time will I ever request people to vote in my journal; it's unfair and I have no idea why the community would allow non-members to vote.
ah well, maybe it will change in the future?
til next time, RdFreak

Preach it sista!
Amen times 99999!
If I ever entered therealljidol, all I'd do is put a link in an entry on my journal to the main vote poll. And no I haven't entered, and no I haven't just voted for folks on my f-list either.

Seriously. I agree with you 100%. Saying "vote for me" just makes people sound so freaking desperate to stay in or maybe they want some faulse assurance that he/she is a good writer. I've seen that soooo many times on my friend's page; it makes me want to hit someone. LOL.

I'm going to disagree with you on this. (Yay, debate! lol)

I never would have found out about LJ_Idol had someone not mentioned about voting. The first post that I ever read about Idol had the "Did you like my entry? If so, please vote for it." That person also added to read all of the other entries while voting so that it was fair to everyone in the competition.

When I did go to vote, I ended up going through all of the entries and voting for the entries that I liked. Not all of us just vote for our friends. I post that so everyone can be made aware of Idol. After all, that's how I found out about it.

But seriously, everyone has their own style. I ask people to vote IF they liked my entry. If they didn't, no big deal. The competition is for fun. If people want to pimp out their LJs, then it's up to them. It's kind of like the "voting for yourself" debate...

I'm glad you didn't take what I said the wrong way. =) Everyone has an opinion; there's no right or wrong answer. But it is fun to see what people think and compare it to what you believe.
