I posted the following to several contacts this morning, and will paste it under a cut for anyone who wishes to read and sign.
Hi all,
Just a public service announcement forwarded from yours truly!
Do read the following, and if you believe in it, please follow the online link and sign this petition.
I have so many fond memories of being at this school, and I am so saddened that this could be taken away from blind children.
As I commented, I think it is essential that we as blind children get the special kickstart in life, which can only really be utilized at such a school for the blind. Such simple daily activities are taught to sighted children at an early age by observing their parents, but we are not able to do this. However, thanks to these specialized schools, staff who are in the know are always on hand.

After 142 years, Vision Australia has suddenly decided to close its school
and
cease all its education services.
Members of the Victorian Independent Education Union at Vision Australia
have
decided to rally community support through this petition and provoke the
Victorian State Government to taking up the full challenge of catering for
the
unique needs of the children for whom Vision Australia no longer wants to
take
responsibility.
I urge you to please sign this petition by following the link below. It is a
simple and safe process. After signing, PLEASE pass it on to as many people
as
possible.

There will be a press release made public in the next few days. The more
signatures we have, the more interest the press will take in this cause.
There
is also opportunity to put comments with your signature
A paper petition will also be circulating, addressed to the Legislative
Assembly of the State Parliament of Victoria. The paper version is the only
one
that can be presented in parliament and can only be signed by residents of
Victoria.
The online petition will be delivered to the Minister of Education, Bronwyn
Pike. Any concerned person can sign this, and we hope to get an expression
of
international concern as well as all the Australians we can muster.
If you would like more information, you can contact VIEU, or the creator of
this petition, Michael Donnelly through the email address on the petition
form.
