my second singing lesson
Mar. 1st, 2008 02:14 pm.. success -- time went so fast! 45 mins (what we agreed on) is way too quick. another option is an hour for another fifteen dolar! aaah! anyway
as she'd promised, Nan came with me on the bus to boxhill and tram to show me where it was. We had trouble finding the street at first, but we found it, and I've memorized the kinda long walk there. - maybe would take about fifteen mins, but, since I've been a bit lazy lately, it will do me good! anyway Nan insisted on looking around the shops while I was in, to make sure i knew the way back, and also we ended up having lunch at Boxhill and these yummy cookie puff things. anyway .. I have the route down pat now, so I can go there each week with ease and not have to worry about cabs or anything.
singing, as I'd expected was quite fun, and like I said, went way too quickly! Basically I spent the lesson doing exercises, going through all the vowlls, and emphasizing on the fact that when I sing from low to high, I open my mouth wider, while maintaining the vowl sound. - this took a bit of practice. They got easier though as she explained it more to me. Let's see .. from memory, it was from about third octive A to fifth octive E, (so a bit longer than a scale).
She initially said part of her purpose of today was to test my range, but I am not sure if she achieved that or not. She said that once she has an idea what I can do comfortably, there can easily be more flexability if need be. -- actually, last week, she'd told me that our range is determined by our normal speaking voice, versus the pitch we may travel up to, eg. a "coowee" or somethin.
anyway, the last, or one of the last exercises I sung to today was "loh" (where the diaphram expands a bit). She said most people don't get to that in one lesson.
She'd said the exercises, or warmups, would usually take about five mins, but to beginners they may take a few weeks.-- there's a proper name for them, but i can't remember what they're called *grrr
anyway, so then I met up with nan walking back down the street, and we caught a tram back to boxhill, ate lunch, then tried two cookie puffs, (they are soo nice! they are like a big soft puffy cookie, with chocolate, mango or custard in the middle.)
I ended up buying a box of six, and thought I'd let
golden_sands try a couple when she comes over this evening.
that's about all I guess. Queens Street week after next.
Oh btw, I met emma, Glenda's house mate. I'm told she's a beauty therapest, so with both sets of clients, the house can be constantly busy! :)
til next time, RdFreak
