5.49 PM
Well I woke today and my cold hadn't improved overly from yesterday when it got suddenly worse again. I had a headache - more like a face ache really.
got up, had breakfast and a lot more taste, spoke to RB on skype, and by lunch time, I could, for the first time, taste my food quite well. I discovered, I now have my sense of smell back as well!
anyway after lunch we did what we'd originally planned yesterday: visitting the Bodmin Jail.
At first I didn't really feel like going even though I felt I ought to really do something on my second last day here, (well third last day, but Thursday I'll be travelling to Heathro). anyway I am damn glad I did go!
We first stopped off at the old execusion room. it did have a gate, but Christine and Jack read a few of the last hangings that tookn place; the very last one being in 1909.
We then went into, what is now a lovely restaurant, we paid and went to look at the cold, dark and damp cells!
Christine and Jack again took it in turns to read me the signs near each cell; information about what crime the prisoners who were in the cells, committed! some, were as young as 10 and 11, who stole milk from cows, and other little things which don't really matter!
There were several floors of cells, and the stairs winded around, the rails were made out of strong steel which would have definitely been there originally!
There was a lot of jail that was in ruins; only a small section was still in tact for the tourists.
The cells were kept at about 15 degrese C, and they did have a blanket, a hard bed each, and a pile of books including the bible.
every prisoner, except the debters had a cold bath every three months.
It was very interesting reading about all the crimes that were committed; some were transported to Australia for little time, or for life. From what I could gather, only the murderers were sent to be executed.
After we left, Christine said it was said to be one of the most haunted places in England. Reporters have tried to stay nights there, assuming in the lounge area, and they haven't been able too.
Christine and I have had a lot of good chats since I've been here. she has confided a lot in me which is nice. We've just gotten to know each other a lot better!
Right, off I go!
Just had dinner. Christine and Jack are off to play tennis again tonight.
I plan to catch up on twitter, msn, email and skype to rB again later. Will also have me a bath!
Think we're off to explore a mine tomorrow; forget which one we're going too. My last day here, *whine*
my cold seems so much better now fortunately. it was sure a strange one; I never knew if it was getting worse, or improving! I think I can safely say, by the time I get back to Dubai Friday, it will be pretty much gone; good riddence, but a damn shame it came to limit my holiday a bit.
Dad said he'll be taking me out for my early birthday!
Til next time, RdFreak
